FAQs

Who can volunteer?

Quite literally, anyone! We’ve got some general options for any age and skill set.

What are the general requirements?

In general, we ask that our front of house volunteers show up on time (or close). While we don’t have a specific dress code, we request our volunteers wear business-casual clothes. Jeans are more appropriate for the Melodrama than our regular season performances.

For waitstaff and bartenders, we request all black, preferably with a nice button-up shirt.

What does the time commitment look like?

This varies from position to position.

Actors, crew and other backstage positions are a big time commitment between all the rehearsals and performances.

Most front of house positions are both a low time commitment, and we let our volunteers watch the show. We usually have volunteers arrive before we start seating, and most (will call, box office, and ushers) are done shortly after the show starts.

House managers also arrive early, and are the last to leave after a show. Roughly, the total time house managers spend volunteering is four hours.

Bartenders and concessions usually wrapping up by the end of the show, as we usually have both open through intermission.

How do I sign up?

Check out our Volunteer Opportunities page!

What precautions are you taking to keep all volunteers safe?

We’ve got a big list of overall precautions on our news page.

Beyond that, anyone wanting to volunteer right now can expect the following:

  • Wellness checks, including taking a temperature, for ALL volunteers

  • Sanitizing before and after every show

  • Plenty of sanitation stations

  • Social distancing marks in our lobby

Do any positions require training?

Yes! We ask that our box office volunteers and our house managers go through one of our training sessions. Check out our workshops and training sessions page to see if we have any that are coming up.

Additionally, we ask that all of our bartenders and waitstaff are TIPS trained. This can be done online through the TIPS website for $45, or for free at the American Legion Post 6; they host one per month, usually on the first Wednesday, from 5pm-9pm.

As for other positions, if you want to do it, we can teach you. Want to learn how to operate our sound or light board? We’ll set you up with someone who knows it.

I’d like to do something not on the sign up. How can I get involved?

It really depends on what you’d like to do.

Backstage positions are usually chosen by directors. We have a list of people who are interested in these positions that we provide to directors.

Set building and painting generally happens at Saturday work calls, from 9am-1pm. We don’t necessarily have a work call every Saturday, though. If you would like to help out, you can always check with our box office to see if we have one coming up. Some sets might require even more work, so we might have construction going on during the week as well.

If you would like to be added to our volunteer lists, you can visit our box office to fill out a form, or call us at (307)-638-6543. If you would like to print one out and bring it in or mail it in, you can do that here: CLTP Volunteer Form.
